{Extreme}: Coupons

So anyone tune into TLC's "Extreme Couponing"?  The hubby & I heard about it weeks ago and he got very excited!  He's more into saving a buck than I am!  And I LOVE saving a buck!  So he found her website and started couponing!  I go every Monday I got to the local newspaper office and purchase 4-6 copies of the Sunday paper for WAY less than a subscription would cost.  Then HE goes through all of them and cuts and clips.  He's fast becoming a coupon addict!  He actually went shopping this afternoon when he got home from work!  He took T and they hit up Smith's & Target and he saved us 50%!  We got free stuff too!

The cleaning supplies were amazing!  He got all this for $.99 each!

This was all free!  It's not much but if you think that the Olay face wash is normally $7 by itself!

This is everything that he got!  And he only spent about $70!  AMAZING!  He came home with such a high, it was hilarious!  I definately don't mind that he enjoys this!

{Sneak Peak}

Isn't the yellow fabulous!?!  The other is T's easter dress...the yellow is for MY dress!  I've decided to try my hand at making my easter dress this year for family pictures!

A "How To":

What happens to a girl who's had the same entertainment center for 6 years (even though she still loves the original but it was taking up too much room)?

She looked for something smaller.  more effective.  It took a lot of patience on her part; and a lot of searching for just the right piece.  She finally found what she was looking for at a local thrift store for $30!

The details were awesome and the price was just right!  The drawers needed some TLC but nothing her hunky hubby couldn't fix...

the top two drawers were remade to open from the front (for the electronics...)

She added a little umph to the drab hardware by spraypainting them silver!

After yellow spraypaint and a little antiquing...the details just popped!

The finished product was amazing!  She was very happy with the drawers too!

{Royalty}: Q&A

Q: What do you do when your soon to be birthday girl comes to you and says that she wants a pink castle cake with Ariel looking out the window at Prince Erik????  That's not hard is it ;)

A: Search around for a great pink castle cake and tell her that Prince Erik took Ariel to his castle instead...and voila...
...you have yourself a pink castle cake!!

Q: What do you do when she wants to dress-up like a princess but she wants to invite boys too??

A: Make it a Princess/Knight party!  Find some fun swords for the boys; I even took it a bit further and painted mustaches on them!
(We even made booths for the royal guests so that as they arrived they could get everything they needed to become a Princess or a Knight!  All I did was find some extra large boxes and covered them in butcher paper.  Then using a big sharpie and some glue and glitter, I labled them approapriately...)

Q: What do you do for games at a Princess/Knight party?

A: A fun version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey...

...Pin the Fire on the Dragon!
I just used poster board and did my best to draw a dragon...or you could print one out and enlarge it at Kinkos too ;)  Then have fun with construction paper to make the fire!

And lastly...

Q: What should I do for decorations without breaking the bank??

A: Find some fabulous tissue paper at the $ store!!  I got 60 sheets for $2!  Love that $ store!!
To make these fun pom poms what you do is...
  1. Stack 8-10 sheets ofthe same color on top of eachother.
  2. Fold accordion style.
  3. Round the ends with scissors.
  4. Find the middle and tie some flexible wire around the paper.
  5. Separate the tissue paper and fluff...don't worry about the creases staying.  It's better when they sort of flatten out.
  6. Tie some fishing line (I found some at Michael's) to the middle and hang!
It sounds complicated, but after the first one, it's not hard at all!!

Q:  What do we do when it's all over?

A: S.L.E.E.P.

{Landscapes}: Wall Style

So it's no suprise that I love a good wall.  I enjoy LOVE color.  I LOVE blank walls.  What comes next is just natural!  So when I heard about this new trend in wall decorating I fell in love all over again!

It's called Wallscaping.  It's taking the idea of a landscape and putting a fun twist on it.  The end result is nothing short of amazing and F.U.N.!

Dresser Facelift!

Let me start off by saying that I've always wanted to re-finish furniture.  It's so awesome the things that you can do!  When I went to re-do my kids' room I thought it the perfect chance to try it out!

So...here's what you need to get started:
1.  A dresser ;)
2.  A hand sander is preferrable (it makes things go a lot faster)
3.  Sand paper in 3 grades: Heavy grit, Med. grit, fine grit.
4.  Paint (any kind really...I used reg. wall paint from Lowes...spray paint is a lot easier to work with though!)

Step 1:  Remove all the hardware and drawers from the dresser.  Make sure you are working in a well ventilated area.

Step 2:  Start with the heavy grit sand paper and start sanding!  The heavy grit is great to remove the original finish.  Work your way down to the fine grit paper...that will make the surface nice and smooth and ready for the painting!

Step 3:  PAINT!  Have fun with it!  Let everything have time to dry.  (Notice the great table clothes I used!  A great find at Walmart!)

Step 4: Put everything back together.

And Voila!  You have yourself a brand new piece of furniture that you can enjoy!

I hope that you have fun with this one!  It really isn't that hard to do if you have the desire to do it!  GO HAVE FUN!

Much love!

{Makeover}: Room Style

This is one of my favorite projects that I've done in my own house!  My kids share a room and so I wanted it to be gender neutral...but I also wanted it to be whimsy and fun!  I started out by painting some fun birds and trees on the walls but it just wasn't enough!

So here are some before pictures...

And after...

{This dresser was another fun project that I'll post the How-To later...so stay tuned for that!}

I just LOVE the way that it turned out!  I was a litte nervous, especially with the stripes, but if there is ANY adive that I can give to you it would be to go bold or go home!  What's the worse that can happen?  You hate it?  Paint over it!  The greatest thing about paint is that it's fairly inexpensive.  Take some chances!  Go out there and go crazy!  Show me some of your paint projects!!  Email them to me at heelsandpaint@gmail.com and you might see them featured here!!

Much Love!
